Outsmarting Myself

For some time now I’ve been telling myself I’m going to sort and reorganize my kitchen plastic containers and discard any that don’t have matching lids, as well as any lids without containers. Some of my old Tupperware seals so well that opening the lids is difficult for my arthritic hands. Those I can donate to Goodwill.

So I decided to buy some inexpensive containers I saw on sale that appeared to have tops that opened more easily. Even better, they nest in sets, to save space. However, when I got them home and out of the packaging, I discovered the nested containers were rather tightly bunched together and difficult to separate. At least if I can’t use them, they didn’t cost much and I can keep looking.

Meanwhile, I have containers and lids spread all over a counter top in the kitchen. Sorting such as this taxes my brain and I don’t last long. I may be able to get the job done in a few days.

My brain is already under a strain learning how to operate the three remotes for the new television and video equipment. I’m thinking about typing up a few minimal instructions to help our aging memories until we are more familiar with the new operations.

Trivia such as this is pretty effective in keeping my mind off the horrible conditions in Haiti. There’s not much I can do except send a little money.
