A Sign of the Times

Driving out Highway 26 today, I spotted a sign that read “Your tax dollars at work. Completion Summer 2009.” It was just ahead of another sign that read, “Construction Zone, Fines Double,” or some such wordage.

It seems odd that an estimated completion date should be publicized, when it could be an embarrassment later on.

I remember a few years back walking through Officer’s Row in Vancouver and spotting a sign on an old house that indicated it was scheduled for demolition about six months before the date when I passed by. I wrote a verse about that, as I recall. I thought it typical of the military. Maybe it’s typical of our era, who knows?

Anyway, it was a gorgeous day to be out and about and snow covered Mt. Hood showed up well on the return trip.

The scuttlebutt in the swimming pool this morning was that we’ve had enough of Tiger Woods and his tiresome scandal. I’m sure he’s sorry—that he got caught.
