Goes With the Territory

Living in a senior complex has its own little idiosyncrasies. We see and hear ambulances and fire rescue vehicles more often than in other communities. We can’t depend on our residential directory to be completely up-to-date even when it is printed. We received a new one today. In the same delivery, there was a newsletter with a review of a book available at our private library. The book had been donated by its author, a long-time resident of King City, according to the article.

I decided to call her and ask if she is in a writers’ critique group. I’m looking for a new group, since mine disbanded a few months ago. Fortunately, I didn’t attempt to do so immediately. On another page of the newsletter was an “In Memoriam” listing of recent deaths in the community. Her name was there. Her death must have been quite recent because her name was still listed in the newly-delivered directory.

So I guess I’ll just continue to keep my name on the waiting list for a Lake Oswego critique group.
