Weather Woes

I remember noticing some really nice weather during the past few weeks. Probably the reason I noticed it was because it was so rare. We broke a record for April showers in Portland this year. We have had some rain on 25 of the 29 days so far. The old record was 24 days. I haven’t heard the forecast, but we may hit 26 tomorrow. We have lots of lovely green, but my primroses are beaten into soggy lumps and the pansies are drooping a bit, also.

Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for nearly seventy years now, I’m used to wet weather and rarely get depressed by gray days. I still fail to understand why anyone in this area paints a house gray, I much prefer brighter colors such as I saw in Ireland and other parts of the world when I was traveling.

I’m looking forward to a visit with all three of my sisters next month in Southern California. The two Seattle sisters and I will fly to San Diego to meet our youngest sister who lives in Oceanside where we will spend a week together. I’m hoping for lots of sunshine, not only because I need it, but so that we Pacific Northwesterners don’t get blamed for bringing rain. That’s happened a time or two before.

We usually have a great time playing cards if the weather is bad or if we are worn out in the evenings. I’m out of practice. I think it’s been at least two years since I’ve participated in a card game. Maybe I’ll get some “beginner’s” luck. Otherwise my Seattle sister who is expert at Spite and Malice will slaughter me. I’ll be lucky to remember how to play it.
