Some Progress

I’m feeling good today about what I’ve accomplished in getting ready for the move. All the books I’m keeping are packed, a dozen or so other boxes have been packed, and I’ve done a lot of culling and hauling stuff to Goodwill. I’ve also set aside things to give to others who can use them. But I know I still have a lot of sorting and culling to do in my closet and the kitchen.

I’m really appreciative of my doctor’s advice to be careful of my back and my cousin’s and sisters’ advice to pace myself and I’m giving that my best shot. I’m trying to use my head more than my back and feet. Since I’ll probably do most of my gardening in pots at the new location, as I do here, I’ve started repotting some plants. I consolidated two pots of primroses into one larger pot. I’ve poured the soil out of those pots—believe me, the flower beds here can use some fertile soil—so I’ll be moving about half the pots empty. I can put fresh potting soil in them and plant them after I move.

I’ve cleaned drawers so the ones I move filled will be lighter and the ones I have to empty will be organized and ready to unpack in the new location. I’ve postponed a couple of nasty jobs I’ll probably force myself to do tomorrow. Cleaning the burner liners on the kitchen range is one of those. Cleaning the refrigerator that will be moved is another. Obviously, I can’t clean the refrigerator that will stay until I empty it.

Since we’ve had so many chilly mornings this month, I’ve used the fireplace several times. I may want more fires over the weekend, so cleaning it will be a last minute job. I discovered three Presto-type logs in the trunk of my car today that will help if we need them.
