Still Plugging Away

A fun and busy day left me almost ready for bed when my early-to-bed sister turned in. But I’ve been neglecting the blog, so I thought I should jot down a few lines before I collapse.

This morning I started by rounding up some empty boxes while my house cleaner did her final rounds in this apartment. I also bought a few tools I might need while moving since I can’t locate any of the ones I had.

Around Noon my son and daughter-in-law arrived with the mattress I’ll sleep on tonight and use in my new apartment with my very old (almost antique) maple bed frame. I didn’t want to bother to set up a bed for just a few nights.

This afternoon I went to the Union Station in downtown Portland to meet my sister who arrived on the train from Seattle, It was an interesting trip—downtown was loaded with people, some in actual costumes, who must have been appearing in an opera or a play and others decked out in clothes, jewelry and tattoos that we don’t see in this senior village. Coming out of the parking lot at the train station, I was forced to cross the Broadway Bridge and then got on the freeway in just a few blocks, so didn’t go back through town. My sister didn’t get to enjoy the show, but we got back here much faster that way. Thus we had some time to visit and look over what needs to be packed before dinner. With a lot of donated zucchini, we made a pretty decent stir-fry, which we both enjoyed.

Crossing the street in front of the station, I turned abruptly, tripped over my sister’s suitcase and fell. Fortunately the suitcase broke my fall and I just scraped my chin a bit. No blood—just an abrasion. I’m a bit stiff and sore tonight, but we had a swim and a hot tub after dinner.

Please ignore the lack of chronology in this report. I’m pretty tired tonight. Tomorrow we will try to do some packing in the morning, then go to dinner in the afternoon with all of my kids.
