Rainy Seattle Day

Today we drove in the warm Seattle rain to West Seattle, from Lake Forest Park. We took the Vashon ferry at Fauntleroy for the twelve-minute crossing to the island. After four bright sunny days, the rain was expected and not too disappointing.

There the four Fairfield sisters and my partner had lunch with our one surviving Fairfield cousin and her husband. Their home is quite near the ferry dock and has a fantastic view of the water.

Cousin June and her husband had just returned from a Hawaiian vacation. He had an airline-air cold/sinus/allergy, but they were hospitable and served a lovely lunch.

We talked family history and genealogy and shared stories, pictures and many laughs for about three hours. On our way home, we were happy to discover that most of the traffic was headed in the opposite direction. The same had been true on our way over to the island.

With each passing year it is more enjoyable to spend time with relatives and long-time friends. We lose too many of them too soon.
