Blogs and WebsitesBlogs and websites are common these days, and an easy way to keep track of what their originators are up to. When I checked out my son’s performance website today, it occurred to me how helpful it would have been to have something like that when I was raising my children. Of course, realistically, they probably wouldn’t have given a mere mother access to any accurate data about any activities they didn’t want her to know about. I’m still hearing hair-raising stories about things that happened “way back when,” without my knowledge. Today I read the blog of a young writer, the daughter of another writer whose blog I read from time to time. I’ve noticed young people who sprinkle like all through their oral dialogue, don’t use it as much when they write. But this young writer used the “f” word, and immediately turned me off. It’s not that I’m such a prude, I just wish writers would use more imagination and, if I were an agent or editor, I’d probably reject her work. There are times when that word fits a character and it works. But I have a personal distaste for reading it in the writing of an educated person. That’s my mini-rant for today. Actually, I’m in a pretty good mood, having just won seven card games in a row, due to incredible luck and not skill. Maybe tomorrow I should buy a lottery ticket |
