November MoodIf a first day of November warns of winter, this one is perfect. I wore my heavy jacket with the fake fur collar to the mailbox a block or two away. I’m huddled over an electric heater that keeps me warm and cozy at the computer. I hope the bad weather doesn’t prevent people from voting in our neighboring states. Oregon votes by mail this time, so I voted a week or more ago. As promised, the drum beaters who phoned ever other day or so to remind me to vote, stopped when my ballot was received. When I was younger I did some of that calling to remind people to vote and inquire about how they were voting. I stopped doing that when I concluded that most people were irritated by the interruption. Some, I thought, might even not vote in protest. During this election year, I have participated in online polls. Those can be done at my convenience and not while I’m burning the meat on the stove. Also, if I answer their questions, I’m then privy to the results as they stand at that time. Al’s mother’s funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon. I hope that the sun peeks out for a minute or two, at least. |
