Sisters

We just returned from a short visit in Seattle. We delivered some inherited furniture to Al’s niece in West Seattle and had a bowl of her delicious turkey rice soup.

Then we headed to my recently widowed sister’s house for dinner and a few intense games of Scrabble. While we were concentrating on words, her phone rang. A male voice asked for her late husband. When she told him she was the wife and that her husband had passed away in August, the man responded, “Have a nice day.” Then he hung up. She was stunned for a moment, then started laughing. Fortunately, she has always had a good sense of humor. We all had a good laugh when she told us about the short conversation, one of many laughs we shared in the two days up there.

Another sister and her husband joined us for dinner Friday night and we all had brunch together this morning, before we left for home.

We three sisters are planning to travel to Oceanside, California in February to spend a week with our youngest sister, a retired teacher. She is working on our family genealogy. That will be one of our many subjects of conversation. Our combined ages total 264 years. We are no spring chickens. We try to get together as often as possible, at least once a year. We are all eagerly looking forward to the upcoming visit.
