Find Romance in Later Life

Find Romance in Later Life Book Cover

It is amazing how many people over fifty are single and lonely. Many don’t know where to start to change their status. There are numerous avenues to be explored that can lead to happiness or, without precautions, untold grief. Frustrated by so much information scattered around, and so many scam artists who want to separate the loveless from their money, the author, Barbara J. Hamby, presents an organized array of options, showing their benefits and drawbacks.

A reader’s comment: “Have enjoyed your book—!! am certain that I will send it to my daughter for her birthday—so she will know some of the things Ol’ mom goes through—and etc.”

Judith Fisher

In Find Romance in Later Life, Barbara uses her own experiences over twenty-three years, as well as information gathered from a wide spectrum of contributors who have shared their experiences, wisdom and advice.  A few poems from the author’s collections are sprinkled through the book to add a touch of whimsy.

After the opening chapter, Opportunities, a brief glimpse at various possibilities, with some examples, Barbara Hamby separates the book into chapters by types of meeting places:

  • Churches
  • Blind Dates
  • Clubs
  • Classes
  • Classified Personals Ads
  • Online Matchmaking Services

Each chapter utilizes anecdotes from contributors illustrating how that particular type of meeting worked, or did not work, for the person who tried it. Chapter Eight is a potpourri of tales from those who do not fit in a single category. Humor and sadness color the stories told by peers of prospective readers. Shock and surprise are also elements of these tales. Readers will be entertained, as well as informed, by this collection of information from people who have been in their shoes and some who have found more comfortable ones.

Consider the lady who recommends keeping a log of people you date, who adds that’s how she knows she’s dated 97 men in fourteen years. Or commiserate with the man whose new wife asked him to impregnate her thirty-eight year-old daughter, so the wife could have a grandchild. Be happy with those who’ve found true love late in life and hopeful for those who are still looking.

From another reader (married 53 years): “Thank you for the book. I can tell it was a lot of work but you should be happy with the result. I enjoyed reading it as it gives an insight into a lifestyle so different from mine.”
