Swizzle Chicks GigThis morning I had a treat. My daughter-in-law and son appeared on a local live television show, AM Northwest. Carrie sings with the Swizzle Chicks and Kurt plays drums in the backup band (aka the Hot Toddies). I?ve been telling people the Swizzle Chicks sound like the Andrews Sisters, but I think that’s wrong. I think they sound better than the Andrews Sisters. I heard an old Andrews Sisters cut on the web the other day. My daughter and son-in-law were in the live audience and the camera showed them once briefly. I should have dragged my tired old body out of bed and gone to the studio to see the performance in person, but I was too lazy. I had forgotten that the audience at home gets commercials for about 50% or more of the broadcast, so I missed the ends of several songs and probably a lot more off-camera activity. Swizzle Chicks’ new CD (Shakin’, Not Stirred) is a good collection of their songs, many of which they have written. The back up band is made up of well-known local jazz musicians. This swinging CD can be ordered through http://www.swizzlechicks.com or http://www.cdbaby.com, or purchased locally at Annie Bloom’s Books or Thinker Toys.
They will be performing at the Blue Monk in Portland in mid-January. I’m going to try to get to that one.
