Nicknames

Not much in the mood for writing tonight. After back-to-back treatments from my chiropractor and physical therapist, my body feels a little beaten up. I won’t be going back for more physical therapy unless my shoulder doesn’t continue to improve.

After a scheduled mammogram, I should be off the doctoring kick for a while.

The chiropractor’s receptionist asked me if I preferred to be called Barbara, Barb, or some other nickname. I said either of those two are okay, but not Bobby or Babs. She said she knew another Barbara who hated to be called Babs. I told her I thought Babs Hutton ruined that nickname. I just got a blank look. I suggested she look up Barbara Hutton on the internet.

My three sisters and I all had nicknames when we were growing up. Most of them have hung on throughout our lives, although Bebe has changed to Bea.

I gave my two children four-letter names so they wouldn’t be called by nicknames. But you can’t control others. My son’s wife and in-laws just added an “ie” to his name. He seems to be amused by it, so I guess I shouldn’t have any problem.

Time to go stare at the boob tube until I get energized enough to get ready for bed.
