Off to Soggy Southern California

It’s a gorgeous morning slightly Southwest of Portland, Oregon. The sun is out, and a breeze has blown the fog away. It is still chilly overnight and into the morning, but afternoons are very pleasant.

Naturally, all this lovely weather has appeared just as I’m preparing to leave for San Diego, where a descendant of Noah is probably building an ark. But, I’m more accustomed to rain than the Southern Californians are. The visit with all three of my sisters will be well worth putting up with the soggy skies.

Putting up with a plane ride both ways is another matter. Years ago, I wrote a poem speculating about what the Wright Brothers might have done if they’d had a crystal ball to see what would happen to their invention in the far-off future. I can’t remember the name of it, so it would take too long to find it and include it today. If I remember, I’ll put it in an entry at a later date.

The good news is the flight only takes about two and a half hours. The bad news is we’ll be landing in San Diego in an MD-80, pretty big, as I remember. San Diego Airport has limited space with water at one end of the runways. I always marvel at a safe landing there.
