Back from the CabinThis will be a memorable week. Our trip to the beach included a few glitches here and there, also some good times and sea, sand and a little sun now and then. Plumbing problems at the cabin where we stayed were stressful for twenty-four hours or so, but we didn’t let that ruin the weekend. Friends of ours were vendors at a Rogue brewers’ fest in Newport so we spent some time with them while we were there. And, of course, we had some seafood and clam chowder, among other goodies. Sunday morning, headed back to Portland with a good early start, we were waved to the side of the highway by a passing car to find that we had a flat tire. We were nine miles this side of Otis on a narrow section of Hwy. 101 with a flat left rear. Standing in the rain, we decided to drive back to Otis to see if we could get the tire changed or fixed. After a slow careful drive back to the gas station there, they offered a bit of air and a can of Fix-a-Flat. Then we debated whether to go back to the cabin or try to drive on to Portland on a tire with a dubious repair. We compromised, took a motel in Lincoln City, and got the tire fixed at Les Schwab on Monday morning. Fortunately, the short drive on the tire with a big staple in it didn’t ruin it and we made it home in good time. I really missed my regular swim session while we were gone and for the week before that when I was under the weather. At the Lincoln City motel I got a good workout in the indoor pool and a soak in the spa. Today, I had a swim here at home, but was greeted by a sign on the door that the pool will be closed starting tomorrow for repairs. Our spa has been closed for a couple of weeks already with no repairs started yet. Our outdoor pools are still closed, but hopefully will open soon.
Today’s mail brought us a notice of a large rent increase to renew our lease the end of next month. I’m almost afraid to get out of bed tomorrow.
