My Heart Goes Pitter-Patter

Well, actually what happened Tuesday morning only raised my normal pulse rate of 60-62 by a few beats. I received not one, but two, personal emails from movie stars. The first was from Robert Redford asking for money to save the planet. The second, from Paul Newman, asked for money for another cause. Both were addressed “Dear Barbara,” thanks to the computer age. Sadly, Paul Newman has aged so that I didn’t recognize his picture at the top of the page and had to wait for his signature at the bottom to identify him.

There was a time when my reaction would have been much different. Years ago, I hung Paul Newman’s picture in a walk-in closet my then-husband and I shared. I waited weeks to hear him complain, but I finally had to point it out to him. He never noticed the poster. Maybe if he’d hung his clothes up once in a while?

I?m fairly well recovered from whatever malady struck me a week or so ago and we spent a pleasant day outdoors by a warm pool Tuesday. We also spent some time in it. Yesterday afternoon I resumed my normal water exercise and swim routine in the indoor pool here at King City.

Last night we watched an old black and white Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn melodrama. It was a treat for us old folks, but it would never make it in theaters today. No car chases, sex, four-letter words, etc. There was a murder but it took place before the story started, so no gore appeared on screen.

And now, back to work on writing.
