Boeing History

“Amid all the 787 roll-out hoopla, perhaps the coolest event went unnoticed.  On Saturday night, Boeing had all of the 787 airline representatives at an event at the Museum of Flight.  At 7:07 PM, an Omega Air Refueling Services 707 landed in front of the crowd (after taking off from Paine Field in Everrett).  At 7:17, an AirTran 717 landed.  This continued until 8:17 when an Air France 777-300ER landed.  In the end, the 707, 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 were lined up nose-to-tail on the taxiway.  It is the first time Boeing has had every 7-series airplane in the same place (not counting the 787, which couldn’t make the flight, of course)”
I received the above information, along with a picture of all the planes lined up on Boeing Field in an email forwarded to me by my daughter the other day. I took the picture to a dinner that evening with a large group of Floyd’s family. His oldest son, a pilot for AirTran, is visiting from Atlanta. When I showed him the picture, he said he had flown the AirTran 717 back to Atlanta from Denver. It had been flown there from Seattle and filled with passengers for its trip home. He had wondered, at first, why one of their planes was in Denver since they don’t normally fly there. The plane’s log showed that it had been flown to Paine Field in Everett and then to Boeing Field.

Years ago I worked at Boeing, but never on airplane projects. I was a secretary in Manufacturing and Engineering on the Bomarc missile project. I have subsequently flown on many Boeing planes, so it was fun to hear about what’s going on with the company now.
