Lessons in Perseverance

Sunday I finally made it all the way through The DaVinci Code including the Epilogue. My motivation, which kept me slogging slowly through all those words, was to see if I could determine what attracted so many people to the book. Darned if I know. I found it better for inducing sleep than NoDoz much of the time.

Also, Sunday I discovered a clean little secret in my laundry room closet. A bleach bottle has apparently been leaking for some time back in the corner of a shelf. After clearing the shelves and the floor space so I could move around, I was treated to a sight to cause sore eyes. The leaking bleach had eaten a hole the size of a large knot hole completely through the shelf and was working backwards into the wall. We took the shelf outside and hosed it off. Floyd measured it and will make a new one for me with some lumber he has. The wall will have to be dealt with later. I need to have the apartment management look at it and figure out the best repair method. I did wash it down, but am not sure what to use besides water that might neutralize the effect of all that bleach.

On Saturday we received a notice from management that we need to clear our deck for painting this week. So, we are in a state of clutter here, there and everywhere, with outdoor furniture and the contents of the laundry room scattered around the hall and living room.

I’ve taken on an editing project for a writer friend who has several agents interested in her book in progress. I’m hoping to conquer my predilection for procrastination and get this job done quickly. The book appears to me to have great prospects so I want to do whatever I can to help her.

Tomato update: We are overrun with green tomatoes. So far I harvested one red ripe fat luscious looking fruit and was disappointed to see it black on the bottom. However, I cut the black part out and the top half was delicious. We have hope for more.
