‘Tis the Week Before ChristmasTime flies even more quickly this time of year than usual, and usual is faster and faster as the years pass. I finally got most of my Christmas cards and letters mailed yesterday with a few stragglers that have to be finished when I have all the information I need. My new all-in-one printer and I are still in the get-acquainted stage, but I managed to get labels and Christmas letters printed, after replacing the black ink cartridge. Mechanical objects have traumatized me most of my life. I suppose that won’t change after all these years. Floyd has had a sore throat/cold this week and has been home the last three days. He recovered enough to enjoy a big steak dinner tonight and plans to go back to work tomorrow. The pool has been closed since Sunday so I couldn’t swim. I thought it would reopen today, but no such luck. The promise now is for 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. When I moved in here, a lot of my empty boxes were stored in the attic, over my protests. Floyd got rid of some of them a while back, but many were too far from the door to reach easily without crawling around up there, so we left them for a later date. Today, I was out shopping while our housekeeper was here and Floyd heard her tell her husband on the phone she?’ have to go out looking for boxes when she left here. So she got boxes and we have more attic space and less fire hazard. She is younger and agile so she pulled them out herself. She and her husband just bought a manufactured home in Eldorado Villas, where I formerly lived, and they’re moving in this weekend. What I enjoy most this time of year is hearing from friends and relatives who only correspond once, or maybe a few times, a year. However, two friends of many years who’ve not used email before have recently started. I hope to be able to hear from them more often now.
This afternoon I found a tiny, crocheted angel for the top of our one-foot live Christmas tree. The ornament I had on last year’s tree was taller than this year’s entire tree and too heavy for it. We may possibly even be ready for Christmas when it gets here, but we do move more slowly these days.
