Chit Chat and ChineseThanks to a traffic jam we encountered when returning from Portland today, we had a good Chinese lunch (and the leftovers for dinner). We had hoped to spend long enough eating that the traffic would clear away completely. That didn’t happen, but we probably saved at least half or three-quarters of an hour of stop and start driving. The waiting room of a doctor’s office had provided entertainment earlier. While I waited, a young couple with a son arrived and seated themselves. An older lady noticed the boy’s hairdo was similar to hers (modified spikes) and commented on it. The boy was flattered. She asked him how old he was. In one breath he answered, “Six, how old are you?” She didn’t bat an eye and told him she was 80. She commented that when you get to be 80, you’re entitled to do some “wild” things. Then she asked the boy if he had brothers and sisters. He replied, “No, but mom and dad are trying.” Mom just smiled, with more tolerance than I might have shown at her age.
An interesting and non-productive day, but I managed to read half a novel. I may finish it later tonight or tomorrow.
