A Good DayThere is something about gliding through water that is pure joy. This morning I attended my first arthritis water exercise class at Sherwood YMCA. I arrived early and was able to spend twenty or thirty minutes swimming and stretching before the class began. Some of the pre-class time was spent being introduced to other class members. One woman I have known for several years is in the class and helped me orient myself. I’m sure the exercises will be helpful and the swimming is, as always, therapeutic. This opportunity is available to me three mornings a week. My YMCA membership is paid by Kaiser, my health care provider, as preventive medicine. I pay a hefty, if not healthy, premium for insurance, so it behooves me to take advantage of the benefits it provides.
Sitting in a writing class for two hours this afternoon stiffened muscles that haven’t been working much lately, so I lounged on ice packs for a while after I got home. The poem I rewrote this week and read to the class today was a hit, as were many of the stories my classmates shared. All in all, it was a good day.
