Sixty Something

early evening of life,
prime time to reflect
on its direction.

Remembering the rocky
roads, as well as velvet
paths of cool green grass;
sometimes stumbling
over tangled roots hidden
by overhanging branches.

Time to ponder
which way to choose.
where shall my wishes
point my shoes?

Ma’s Master Plan

Mother Nature is no slouch.
She can get you off a couch
by stiffening your pinky
so you can’t hang on to objects dinky.

Little bitty things slip right through
       your fingers.
The effect of bending to retrieve
       them lingers.
To keep your waist from further
       expanding
Mother Nature is demanding.
