Ranting AgainI wrote the following on Thursday (yesterday) and one of my more aggravating computer problems prevented me from posting it, so try again… Today I bought three of the highly touted, allegedly energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs shaped like pretzels. To my surprise, they are encased in plastic (a lot of it), that appears not to be recyclable. In addition, it’s my understanding that a lot of energy is expended in manufacturing this rigid plastic. I imagine the manufacture of the light bulbs themselves doesn’t require more energy than the regular bulbs, or at least, I hope so. The regular bulbs, however, are packaged in paper. Please tell me we consumers are gaining something here, not just the manufacturers and merchants. Admittedly I’m not in the best mood possible today, having had stomach problems for a couple of days and computer problems for more days than I care to remember. I did mellow out some after an afternoon snoozing in front of the fireplace until I learned there’s an air inversion and I shouldn’t have had a fire. The five o’clock news was too late to warn me.
My day started out well by having a cup of tea with my neighbors at Town Hall, listening to corny jokes and idle conversation. Our housekeeper did the apartment while I drank tea and shopped. Life is really pretty good, overall.
