Change Can Be Good

In a recent rant, I complained that a nearby supermarket was rearranging their store and speculated that it might be for their benefit and not, as they claimed, for their “valued customers.” Well now that the job is finished, I feel obligated to report that, regardless of their intent, the results are beneficial to this customer. The store seems lighter, brighter and less cluttered. We’ll see if that lasts. But, more important, the contents of the shelves are well identified by signs with large print. Since the majority of us who live in this neighborhood are senior citizens, all of those changes are helpful.

I don’t know whether the prices are higher, as it seems, or I just couldn’t read them before. Nonetheless, shopping their aisles is much more pleasant than before.

A writer friend who’s lived in this area considerably longer than I, tells me that it appears to her that they have just returned to the system they abandoned a few years ago to make what they then considered improvements. Apparently customers didn’t like their ideas. I know I didn’t shop there often because I got tired of hunting for everything.

Anyway, when change is a definite improvement, I think it should be acknowledged. Consider this my acknowledgment.
