Our First (Pre) Spring DayWe have bright, warm sunshine today. When we returned from an overnight visit to a mountain resort this morning, I opened the sliding glass door and turned off all the heat. Fresh air is coming in. Our sunrises and sunsets the last few days have been sensational. I even did a little gardening this afternoon. Very little, admittedly. The major task was rearranging pots. I put the three pots of tulips and the two pots of chrysanthemums, which are about half grown, into spots where they have more room to expand. The pot of primroses will have more space now also. I notice an infant shrub has appeared in that pot and needs to be moved to a larger one of its own. I’m debating whether to plant the sprouting yam in the kitchen in one of the larger pots. I’ve never grown yams and don’t know whether they spread out like squash and cucumbers. If not, a pot might work. My little Christmas tree died while I had the flu and neglected it. I’ll try again next year. We need something young around us, and plants are easier to care for than pets. We have too many reminders of our age every day. This week I sewed on a button, a task that once took me about five minutes. I think it took half an hour this time. Ten minutes to find a needle, ten minutes to thread it, etc. How depressing. In addition to that, my legs are complaining loudly about the climbing I did yesterday. Swimming obviously doesn’t use the same muscles.
But today’s spring-like weather, which often teases us in this area, is an excellent reminder of youth and renewal.
