Exercise--Physical and Mental

After reading a recent report that belly fat may be a prerequisite to dementia, my motivation for exercise has been reinvigorated. Granted, the research stated that having excess belly fat in middle age was the determining factor, so it may be too late for me, but there’s no harm in trying. I’ve increased my time in the swimming pool and made sure to be there almost every day. Heredity is a factor also and I’m not certain what’s in my genes in that regard.

The extra exercise seems to be reducing the insomnia problem I’ve had in recent weeks. Or something is and the extra sleep is very welcome.

For the first time in several years, I sent some poems in to an anthology contest a couple of days ago. There’s another stack of contest guidelines on my desk that I may or may not get around to entering. My writing critique group has been very helpful with polishing poems and stories. Memoir stories are stacking up and may actually get organized in some fashion in the near future. Writing and editing may keep my brain active enough so it won’t deteriorate. As Red Skelton used to say, “I hope, I hope, I hope.”
