Back from the Cool (?) BeachWhen we stopped on our way back from Newport today, a couple traveling on a motorcycle said they had been to the beach for the day and heard that Tillamook was 103 degrees a couple of days ago. Friday in Newport was very hot, not cooling down until evening. Saturday was a pleasant day and Sunday morning was quite cool and foggy. It is still warm here in Portland tonight and my master plan to shade my flowers on the deck backfired when the umbrella table tipped over and pulled a planter down with it sometime while we were gone. Our tomato survived and possibly a few flowers, but not many. My neighbors may have watered the flowers by the front door, because they look fine. The hanging basket didn’t do as well, but I gave them all lots of water tonight. A new house is going up across the way from Floyd’s family’s cabin, so there is a temporary ocean view where the trees have been removed and the foundation started. It was a busy weekend for Floyd and his partner who had a table at the Rogue Brewfest. I spent most of my time in the cabin reading a book, although I ran errands and helped out briefly one afternoon at the festival. I always enjoy the sound of the surf and a bit of seafood when we get over to the coast.
But part of getting older, I think, is enjoying home best. Even the ocean atmosphere doesn’t always give me a good night’s sleep in a strange bed.
