Sunday Evening

Another lovely Indian Summer day. We sat outside with our dinner guests, my son and his wife, while we visited and nibbled on crackers and cheese. It had cooled enough indoors by dinner time to eat in the dining room. We are always delighted to have them bring Handsome, their big dog. Before we lived where we are now, we would dog-sit when they went out of town. Now they have a dog-lover friend who does it.

At the end of the delightful evening, they loaded up their van and left. Just a few minutes later, they were back with car trouble. After a patch-up job, they left again, but only got as far as the nearby gas station before they had to call for a tow. They had the van towed back here and borrowed a car from us to get home. Handsome was really excited after riding in the rear end of the van that was elevated by the tow truck. He was pretty anxious to get home to familiar surroundings.

My old laptop computer went home with them also. I have never yet sent an old computer to a landfill. My son-in-law took all my old ones to tinker with until my daughter put her foot down. He still has my Commodore 64. I doubt that I would still remember how to run it.

So now I need to settle into my new notebook computer. Some of the files I’d like to get into it are still on floppy disks, which new notebook will not accommodate. But I’m sure I will figure out how to get them to where I want them. It may take a while.

We haven’t heard what’s going on up on Mt. St. Helens. I assume there is nothing earthshaking (pun intended) since AOL news has no mention of it at present. I’ll check the late news on television.
