Economics Lesson

This time of the month I always get anxious to sit down and project the next month’s expenses. Ever hopeful that there might be some money left over for “discretionary” spending, I pull up Quicken and start filling in the blanks. This month I’m motivated by a desire to have spending money on our cruise to Alaska.

Since I’m mathematically impaired, as the politically correct expression goes, Quicken has been a boon for me. For the first time in many years, I know to the penny how much money is in each of my accounts. The program also reminds me of payments I might overlook otherwise.

For several years now, I’ve been subscribing to every free writer’s ezine that comes along for tips to make writing easier and maybe even profitable. I’m suddenly on overload and now have to pick and choose which ones to drop. A couple of them have made it easy for me to eliminate them, by requesting a fee to continue.

I understand that it costs money to keep ezines going, but there are other avenues for income than charging impecunious writers. It should be a no-brainer that writers who want to learn how to make money writing are obviously not doing so at present.

At any rate, if I unsubscribe to those who desire payment, it should give me more time to write and to spend studying tips on the free ezines. Getting off so many lists will be part of my end-of-the-month activities in April.
