Play before Work

The pool opened in our park today and I was the first one in it. The water temperature was perfect and the air temperature was not bad, with sun breaks now and then. I had a great swim and a chat with the park manager who was still working on the pool.

I came back and worked on the index of stories from my life. There are still a lot of blanks I need to fill in, but I don’t intend to group all of them in chronological order. Two unfinished stories turned up, so obviously those need to be completed. It’s always more fun to start something new than to go back and finish or go back and edit existing work.

I posted one story on the website that a fellow student created for our writing class. He liked my story and found no fault with it. Unfortunately he and I seem to be the only ones who use the site, with the exception of a one-time posting of a synopsis for critiquing by another student. Other classmates have critiqued my story previously. I’ve also tried to sell it separately, without success. But I think it’s a good account of my early childhood days spent in a small town in the San Joaquin Valley and I may try again.

After a short errand and cooking a batch of spaghetti, I came back to the computer. I copied the index and will use it to determine what arrangement of the stories will work for me. If I do some of this planning as I go along, dealing with dozens of documents later won’t be so overwhelming.

Anticipation of another swim tomorrow morning will get me through the rest of this evening and into bed.
