Writing and Travel

A busy Wednesday, swim class in the morning, writing in the afternoon. The writing class I’m in this last term has turned into an excellent critique group. Most are very good writers and editors, even though a few have not done any creative writing before. Our instructor takes the summer off, but the class may meet without her until fall.

Tonight I waded through about a foot of paperwork and booklets we’ve received in connection with our upcoming cruise. It’s only a seven-day trip up the Inland Passage. I wonder how much paper a month cruise would generate. We sorted out the necessary paperwork that probably got the weight down from about ten pounds to a pound.

We reserved tickets for an excursion on a tram in Juneau and another on the Yukon Railway in Skagway. There is only one whole day at sea on this trip, so there won’t be much time for writing. If the weather is good on that day, I’ll want to be on deck watching scenery, anyway.

It always seems as if, whenever you’re trying to get things organized to be away, a lot of time-consuming and unusual tasks turn up that have to be done. This time is no exception. Somehow it will all get done--or not.
