From the Mundane to the MagnificentThe two highlights of Monday, May 09, were getting my desk cleaned off and watching a video on covered bridges, not necessarily in that order. That is the order in which they occurred, not the order of their importance. Long ago I discovered that papers piled high on a desk can be sorted rather rapidly. Usually most of the bottom half of the pile can be tossed as obsolete by the time you get to it. That was definitely the case with the latest cleaning job. Sometimes I note with dismay that I have missed something I really wanted to see, such as a theatrical performance on April 29th. A little late to be reminded of it now. The covered bridge video hopped from bridge to bridge all around the country. Construction and repair details were a large part of the presentation. Various types of trusses were discussed and illustrated. Quite a bit of the footage was in Oregon. Several bridges we have crossed and others we have seen were shown. The Linn County covered bridge festival and several of the county’s bridges were featured. I learned about a covered bridge museum in Vermont. Maybe I can get there one of these days. As you may have guessed by now, I’m a bit of a covered bridge fan. I have a small collection, consisting of two water colors of a bridge in California that was part of my childhood memories, and one painting and one etching of unidentified bridges.
I prioritized some writing projects and hope to dig into them in the morning.
