Can anyone tell me why bedspreads are an endangered species? I have searched catalogs and stores and, so far, find only comforters, beds in bags that include sheets and pillow shams with comforters, and other miscellaneous bedding. If Martha Stewart is responsible for the demise of bedspreads, then I have another reason not to buy any of her stuff.

In the summer, a light bedspread can be colorful and comfortable. The weight of a comforter is more than is needed in hot weather. Even thin quilts can be too heavy.

Today I looked at K-Mart and found no trace of anything resembling a bedspread. The bedding department had three other shoppers, all male, which I thought was curious.

I spent some time Monday reviewing, revising and adding to memoir stories. Going through the bad times slows me down. It’s easier writing about the good days.

Writing little essays for the blog is always fun. This one will be posted Tuesday morning before we leave for a quick trip to the Oregon coast. We will drive down the coast to Coos Bay and possibly return via freeway on Wednesday.
