Writing Projects and a GripeI’m working on two writing projects more or less simultaneously right now. One is an account of my adventures in publishing over the last ten years or so. The editor of a writing newsletter has solicited articles from authors who’ve used various methods of publishing to pass on information and encouragement to budding writers. If I can polish my contribution to suit her, she will print it and my bio with a link to my books. Since I have used several self-publishing methods from printing at a copy shop and self-assembly to print-on-demand (POD), I am writing an account of the various steps needed to produce satisfactory finished projects. The second piece I’m working on was prompted by a CNN report of a Gallup Survey of teenagers, soliciting their career choices. The results reflect significant changes in the last twenty-five years for both boys and girls. I wrote a short summary of that report on my blog a few days ago. Now I’m expanding it to make it a more detailed article. Although the first of these two articles might possibly become part of my memoirs, I’m probably just procrastinating about getting back to the hard part of my life story, which is where I’m stuck now.
This afternoon I drove through Bridgeport Village, the ritzy new shopping mall that is replacing what was a virtual slum area not far from here. I’m trying to decide if it’s a change from the ridiculous to the sublime or vice versa. I don’t know whether the valet parking is temporary while construction is still going on, or will be a permanent service. It is a clue to me that I probably can’t afford to shop there. I wish they hadn’t plopped my formerly favorite bookstore into the middle of it. Maybe I’m just getting old and crotchety.
