Life In RetirementOnly four people showed up for our writing critique group today, which gave us lots of time to fine tune our offerings. The variety of subjects spiced up the readings. We had an aviation story, a science fiction monologue, a portion of a Christian novel, and a publishing essay. An invigorating swim in the morning and the writers’ session this afternoon made this a very satisfying day. In retirement, I sometimes think I spend way too much time eating, sleeping and reading. But I do notice that, after a nap, I can accomplish much more than if I drag myself around, half awake. Email takes more time than I like, but the correspondence with friends and relatives does help replace the many social contacts I had while I was working. The writing ezines are important to furthering my writing networking and education. Al and I are planning a road trip for early fall. I’d like to see the New England leaves turning to bright colors, as well as many other sights along the route we’re working on. Tentative plans are to cross the country in the North, possibly go up into Eastern Canada, drive down to the Carolinas and back across the South to California and home.
Many stops along the way are under consideration and will probably be changed several times before our route is finalized. Anyway, anticipation is half the fun.
