A Pleasant Sunday Afternoon

We went to see the Spruce Goose at Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville this afternoon. All the WWII planes, some originals, some replicas, brought back a lot of memories. Howard Hughes’ big plane is, of course, the main attraction and is huge. A glassed in area inside the plane allows spectators to see in both directions, but not the cockpit. A picture of the cockpit has to do.

After walking around the mammoth building for an hour and a half, we drove to the Wheatland ferry and rode across that very narrow section of the Willamette River on the tiny ferry. Heading toward the freeway on a secondary highway, we saw an eagle’s nest atop a tall electric post. The mama eagle was guarding her huge nest with at least one little one wiggling around in it. She stood up to her full height when we stopped and screeched at us. She was right at the roadside and the cars going by didn’t seem to bother her, but she didn’t like our stopping and staring.

What more could anyone ask for on a Sunday afternoon than to see an eagle’s nest
