A Quiet Third of JulyThis perfectly gorgeous day should be producing an equally stunning sunset soon. I’m really glad for all the people who are camping and picnicking or just barbecuing in the back yard. We did none of the above, but enjoyed a quiet day at home. I had a solitary swim, then grilled steak with the help of a George Foreman imitation. To round out the simple meal, we split a large yam. I’ve been wasting a lot of energy procrastinating about several overdue projects: catching up the filing in my office, cleaning the refrigerator and/or microwave, and last but probably least likely to get done anytime soon, cleaning ovens. We puttered around in the yard some this weekend, pulled a few weeds, did a little deadheading of flowers and trimming bushes. It doesn’t seem possible to ever get totally caught up anymore. I noticed with delight a small butterfly fluttering through my front flowerbed. We don’t see enough of them these days. Yesterday I wrote a poem about Juneau, which I may publish on my website when I get it polished.
There were about a half dozen explosions after dark tonight. I went outside, but couldn’t see any ornamental fireworks.
