Living in the Back of the Store

When I was a girl, I thought it would be fun to live in back of a store, but I never had that opportunity. However, I think I know a little about it now. In my present living situation, my partner Al is, by my diagnosis, a compulsive shopper. I don’t think he ever buys one of anything, much less the small size.

I don’t cook much; most of the time I just heat food. But, when I do want to put a recipe together, I can be pretty certain the ingredients will always be here, somewhere. If I want a can of mushrooms, or olives, or cranberry sauce, I can find it, eventually.

Recently, he rearranged the pantry and pasted inventory sheets on the inside of the door that are very helpful. We do need to remember to change the number in stock when we remove an item. Needless to say, we don’t always do that. Probably if I took the last one, I would write 0 on the Quantity space, but we never seem to get down to the last one.

There are very few last minute trips to the store, however. That’s a new way of living for me.

I think inventory sheets in the freezer are the next step.
