Automation

I am gradually getting my computer set up so that I can pay most of my bills electronically. So far, my electric company and the landlord are the only ones for whom I have to write checks. This will make it less stressful when we are out of town. I shouldn’t have to worry about forgetting to pay a bill before we go.

It took me a long time to come around to using Quicken to keep track of my finances. The good news is that I know exactly where I stand financially at any given time. The bad news is that I know exactly how many of my books I’m not selling.

Now if I could just program my computer to load, turn on and unload the dishwasher, washer, and dryer, my life would be nearly perfect. I still believe that there was actually a display at the World’s Fair in San Francisco in 1939 that predicted such a laundry facility. They claimed the clothes would enter dirty and exit folded and/or ironed.

But I was only ten at the time and I could have dreamed the whole thing. I guess you could say there is such an appliance today. It’s called a maid.

However, most maids don’t do windows. Nothing’s perfect.
