Writers Faire Report

Yesterday, shortly after Noon, I drove to the Multnomah Arts Center to participate in Writers Faire, a book-signing event for writers from all over the Pacific Northwest. Some are members of Oregon Writers Colony; some belong to Willamette Writers, and a few may not be members of either organization. The latter group rents tables and the member writers are allowed free table space. The sponsoring organizations make all the arrangements and have signs with each writer’s name on them, placed on the participant’s assigned space.

I was flattered yesterday when my first buyer told me she had brought only $10.00 with her and she was using it to buy one of my books. There may be a few writers who sell a lot of books at this event, but the competition is pretty stiff for the buyers’ bucks. I, and other writers I heard from, sold two to five books. But we had a good time networking to exchange ideas and information.

Sometimes I think books are being priced out of the reach of average buyers, but, if you compare the prices with the cost of a ticket to an athletic event, a play, or a music act, you can get more for your money reading a good book. And you can enjoy a book in your own home, even in your own bed.

Now to get back to my writing, which includes memoirs that may become a book.
