Back Home Again

Back home to rainland tonight. I tried to bring warm sun home from the California desert, but it never works. We just spent seven days in California and I’ll do more detailed reports on our sightseeing when I’m rested a little. We went to Death Valley and traveled from its below sea level depth up the slopes of Mt. Whitney to 10,000 feet. We toured Scotty’s Castle in Death Valley (more on that later). From Mt. Whitney, we drove through Yosemite National Park and on to visit my aunt in Chico.

We left Chico early this morning and arrived at home in the late afternoon. In between loads of laundry tomorrow, I’ll begin writing up our adventures.

On our way to Death Valley, we detoured to San Jose to visit an elderly uncle of mine. He and his wife are both 92, and he is somewhat depressed at losing his driver’s license recently. I can understand that. Independence is a privilege we all value highly, much more so as we grow older.

Anyway, we have returned. A messy tree that dropped leaves and fruit on our sidewalk was felled while we were gone. It wasn’t our tree, but I’m sorry to have missed watching the process of removing it. Some of the plants that were in its shade may do better now. We’ll look forward to watching that
