Mixed-Bag Monday

Our return trip from Seattle was fairly pleasant, except for a period of heavy rain that caused a lot of splash from speeding trucks. Most had mud skirts; a few had none. Almost none were obeying the truck speed limit.

While catching up on reading email, I had a jolt. A friend of more than sixty years has been fighting ovarian cancer for a number of years. She has tried various chemotherapies. The most recent made her ill and exhausted. She is tired of fighting, and I certainly don’t blame her for that. Her courage and determination to keep on living has been inspiring. Even though I’ve known this time would come, it upset me much more than I anticipated.

Two travel opportunities have arisen and are jumping around in our heads, like visions of sugarplums. One is free use of a condo in Mazatlan for a week in December. The prospect of basking in warm sunshine in December is more of a temptation than I can resist. Another is a week with my sisters in Oceanside, California in February. Both may be possible if I sharpen my pencils and go to work on my budget.

Actually, I should probably take a crash course in Spanish. One possible round-trip flight includes a four to five hour layover in Mexico City.  Ole!
