Falling Leaves

Just as soon as I remarked (a couple of days ago) that the leaves seemed to be staying on the trees longer than usual this year, they started dropping in double time. About a week ago, it seemed that almost all the leaves were still on the young dogwood tree in the back yard. Today I can count the remaining leaves on my fingers.

The trees out my office window are nearly bare. The last time I took a good look, only the tops were leafless. I’m sure the breezes that blew today sped up the process.

The good thing about growing older is that time goes by so quickly that even winter doesn’t seem long any more. The months with holidays (November and December) always go by faster than January, which drags a little. In February we begin to believe that spring is just around the corner.

If we keep practicing card games all winter, I should be a real shark by the time my sisters and I get together in 2006, or at least that’s what Al mentioned this afternoon when I was winning. Actually, I think it’s pretty much the luck of the draw. With Scrabble, it seems most of my draws are unlucky
