Matchmaking NewsHaving written about ways of meeting others for dating and/or companionship for people over fifty, I was surprised to hear recently that a couple of online matchmaking services are being sued. It is alleged that they planted phony profiles on their sites to make it appear the services were more popular and widely used than they actually are. If this is true, it’s very sad because so many lonely people are afraid to risk using such facilities as it is. The publicity around these lawsuits will not help. There are risks anytime a person attempts to form a relationship with someone else no matter how they meet. There are also good results from some of the matchmaking services that are wonderful stories. My daughter just recently made a wedding cake for a close friend of hers who met her husband through an online service. I am in a long-term relationship with a man I met online, also. There are many other examples of happy couples who met by clicking on their computers.
There are also some sad stories that I’ve heard, but none that I’m personally acquainted with. I hope that the questionable practices of a couple of matchmaking organizations will not affect the business of reputable companies who are bringing lonely people together.
