ThanksgivingToday I was getting ready for a small Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. We have two “Mr. Coffee"-type coffee makers and I was cleaning both so I can brew decaf as well as “leaded” coffee. I put the carafes and the little bins that hold the coffee in the dishwasher and wiped down the remaining parts. I turned them both over, probably for the first time ever, and was horrified to see a thick black coat of gunk over the parts where the coffee drips through into the carafes. Yuck! Now that those are both clean, we should have great coffee tomorrow, especially if I make it with Brita filtered water. I’m not much of a chef any more, partly due to lack of practice. I have a small turkey thawing in the refrigerator that I’ll pop into the oven tomorrow and cook some of the usual trimmings, but not all. Our kitchen is not spacious enough for a major production. I moved a number of small appliances into one of our sheds today, to make more room. Al vacuumed for me and helped me hang a drape over the washer and dryer (at one end of the kitchen) that will allow me to use them as additional counter space. Most of the house is looking pretty spiffy. I have a screen up to shield the view of my office, which never seems to be up to my standards of tidiness any more. Maybe my standards ain’t what they used to be.
May we all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and a lot for which to be thankful!
