Whining by a Wimp

Today I discovered what a wimp I’ve become. I washed and put away a load of dishes and a load of laundry. Then I took a trip to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, picked up mail at my post office box, bought groceries at Fred Meyer and drove home before Noon. Around 5:00 I discovered I’d only made it home with half my groceries, so took another trip to Fred Meyer to reclaim what I’d left in the shopping cart. Of course, that trip was in rush hour traffic, after dark.

Driving after dark, in this neighborhood especially, is nerve wracking. There are few sidewalks, so pedestrians walk on the shoulders of roads. This time of year many wear dark clothing. Long dark skirts and coats make the wearers nearly invisible without something light for contrast. I have a white knit hat and white gloves for winter, but I don’t often walk after dark anyway.

In my working days, all that would have been a snap. These days I had to take a nap before our session of card playing. Lady Luck smiled on me today and kept throwing good cards my way, so I could catch up with Al.

I did manage some revisions on recent writings and printed out copies to take to writing class tomorrow. But I’m exhausted and on my way to bed now.
