Gratitude AttitudeOn such a blustery, frigid day, it’s tempting to complain about something, but I’ve done enough of that lately. The gas bill for last month was a bit of a jolt with the combination of higher usage and a higher rate. But, we can afford to pay it and should be thankful for that, as Al reminded me. There are a lot of things to be thankful for and this month is just as good as last month to remember them. Maybe even better. I’m thankful nearly every day that I don’t have to get up and go to work ever again, unless I choose to. Most women can relate to my gratitude for not having to wriggle into pantyhose that never fit right no matter what shape you’re in. I can sit at my computer all day in a bathrobe if I wish, although I usually don’t. I’m most grateful for the old friends and relatives who are still able to send me a card or a note at this time of year and the young relatives who take the time to do so. For a few weeks, it makes going to the mailbox a special rite again. Most mail arrives on this screen these days.
We all take too many things for granted, myself first among us. Being warm, dry, fed and rested, would make huge populations of this world much more grateful than we remember to be. We take our freedoms for granted, also, and that’s our most dangerous fault. Recent news is a scary reminder of our neglect. Enough said.
