WebCamsYesterday, while doing some research, I rediscovered WebCams, cameras focused in particular locations so that viewers can watch the activity. I watched a cargo ship go through the Panama Canal and, over the last 24 hours, I’ve been monitoring a watering hole in Kruger National Park, South Africa. When I got up this morning, two hippos and their avian friends were hanging out there. To go to the site, click, or copy and paste: http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/webcams/ Note: Because of the time difference, much of our daylight will be nighttime there, but I’ve caught two groups of animals there already. I visited Kruger Park on a trip to South Africa in 1998 with a small group of women writers from all over the United States. We had a wonderful time. Some of us corresponded for a while after we got back, and a few exchanged Christmas cards. This is the first year I’ve not heard from any of them, although I sent a card to the woman who was my roommate on the trip.
The wonders of the worldwide web never cease. My parents, and previous generations viewed with amazement all the many developments that occurred during their lifetimes. In later years, I can only speculate (and read science fiction for a preview) as to what the future might bring.
