Toot Your Horn

“He who tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted”

I put that in quotes, because I’ve been lead to believe for many years that someone memorable said it. Possibly it’s just a memorable saying that one of my ancestors made up, who knows? If you know who first said it, let me know and I’ll be glad to give credit.

Anyway, I had fun at writing class today, talking about my poetry book and reading a poem from it. A number of classmates kept copies of the poem, which I took to be a compliment. The point of including the poem in my essay was that a woman had walked out of a poetry reading after hearing it. It was a very early reading that I did before a group of women Toastmasters. I believe that organization has had a name change, but the new name escapes me.

I was shy about sharing my poems at that time, so it shook me a little. I was also embarrassed because a personal friend who was a member had invited me and I didn’t want to reflect badly on her.

Those who are curious about the poem I refer to are invited to purchase a copy of My Muse Has Many Moods and turn to page 18. Possibly this will be a way to get rid of a few of the remaining 200 or so copies of the book gathering dust in my office closet.

End of shameless plug.
