A Change of HandsThe meeting this afternoon was well attended by residents of this park. Most of the people on our block were there and invited me to sit with them. We rarely see each other in the winter, but in summer we are out in our yards or at the pool where we visit. We were introduced to the couple who will be the new managers of the park and the couple who are leaving worked the room to say goodbye to all. The latter couple has been here about six years, having left briefly and then returned when a replacement manager became terminally ill. Having lived in a number of manufactured or mobile home parks, I’ve come to the conclusion that people who are willing to manage such a place have a screw loose somewhere. But somebody has to do it, I guess. So I can only wish them luck and try to get along with them as well as possible. Although well-maintained generally, this park is beginning to show its age, especially the water system, which probably needs a total replacement. The band-aids they’ve applied since I’ve been here haven’t begun to solve the problems. Newer and bigger manufactured homes are added continually, which I’m sure is not helping the situation either. Anyway, I’m glad I’m not in charge. Probably everyone else is, also. (Glad, that is.)
Fresh fruits, cookies and candies were served with coffee, so I was happy I hadn’t had lunch and could enjoy a few treats.
